Sunday, June 22, 2008 will be the 3rd anniversary of my best friend in the whole world, MarLa's death. We became friends in May 1988 when we met at our job in the office supply industry @ United Stationers. 18 years and many wild, crazy, happy, and sad memories later, MarLa passed away unexpectedly due to unknown complications from a hysterectomy. She left behind her two daughters, Laura and Julie, grandkids, Jaden and McKenna, sons Shawn and Dylan and lots of memories. I talked to her almost every day for 18 years and most days more than once, so it made up for the days I didn't actually talk to her. For the last 9 years she was alive, she lived 35 miles from me so we didn't see each other but a few times a year, but we made up for that mileage in phone calls. Her life was so chaotic that talking to her always helped me put my life in perspective. I never made it to the hospital after her surgery and I missed her phone call to me, which would have been the last time I would have ever spoken to her. I miss her every day and know that she is happy in Heaven!
